The Invisible Servants
November 19, 2007
I believe in angels…
something good in everything I see,
I believe in angels…
when I know the time is right for me,I’ll cross the stream, I have a dream…
I’m sure that most of us will know the lyric above, taken from the song I Have A Dream, popularized by Westlife on the year 1999. The song is about the power of dream, beyond our failure and reality. It’s a really good song, but comes to the chorus, something tickles me. How come it mentioned about belief in angels and not in God? It’s before I knew this verse, of how significant angels are in our life…
Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?
Hebrew 1:14 (AMP)
Angels, sent by God, for our assistance, servants of God comes to the world to assist us. The Amplified bible even called them “servants”.
Let’s imagine what will we do when we have these invisible servants, wherever we go?

In The Valley
November 13, 2007

Thank you for valleys, Lord.
For this one thing I know,
The mountain tops are glorious,
But it’s in the valleys I grow!
It’s a part of In The Valley poem I read from my church bulletin article, written by Elder Elgin Chan. Few things to be learned just from the passage above:
- Be gratitude wherever you are, we can be grateful when we are successful, but how many of us can be grateful when we are in the valleys, when we are in wilderness. Valley signifies our struggle, our limitation and weaknesses. Choose to find something to be thankful everyday even when you’re in the valley.
- Have a vision, look at the mountaintops, put your goals, have hope and faith to reach your goal.
- And grow! It’s also something that we can always be thankful of with the valley, we are growing! Choose to grow wherever you are!
When you’re thankful of the valleys, the journey is enjoyable, and when you’re growing, the wilderness experience we have is shortened.
How we act in the wilderness determines how long we’re gonna stay in the wilderness.

Price of Obedience
November 4, 2007
Christians habitually weep and pray over beautiful truth, only to draw back from that same truth when it comes to the difficult job of putting it in practice. It appears that too many Christians want to enjoy the thrill of feeling right but are not willing to endure the inconvenience of being right.
A. W. Tozer
I read this quote from a message from Rev. David Wong on Steps of Obedience, started from I hear, I understand, I remember, I decide, I do and finally, I persist on doing.
Blogging is easy, it’s just stating the principles that I read from bible or books, I heard from pastors, teachers, or friends, songs or movies. It does really help me in the third step, I remember. But comes to the challenging part is really in doing, walking the faith and obeying God.
I read Mother Theresa’s letters today, how she struggled with feeling the absence of God’s presence, in the midst of her ministry. But the greatest thing is that she’s still doing the right thing even when she is not feeling right, she is still following the faith and the call and passion God has put in her life.

This is what the last step Rev. David Wong is trying to emphasize, I persist on doing.
Obeying the Lord does not guarantee relief and ease. On the contrary, we may meet opposition, face inconvenience and suffer loss. That is when we pay the price of obedience.

Only The World
October 28, 2007
Another favorite song of mine, from Mandisa, “Only The World”
Remember that whatever problem we have in this world, it’s only temporary and it can’t be compared to what God has promised us in heaven!
To listen the song, click here.
Verse 1:
Been a hard one, Been a bad one
Been a tough one, Been a sad one
It’s been one of those days that keeps chipping away at my heart
Nothing new here, It’s what I do here
its a stereotypical day, in the life
I’m surrounded by all of the pain and the strife
but I know it’s alright, woah ohChorus:
Cause it’s only the world i’m living in
It’s only today i’ve been given
There ain’t no way i’m giving in
Cause it’s only the world (only the world)
I know the best is still yet to come
Cause even when my days in the world are done
There’s gonna be so much more than only the world for me
do do do do do do do do do, yeah its only the world
Verse 2:
Anybody can you hear me?
Do you feel me? I mean, do you feel me?
I know I’m not the only one wearing the weight in this world
We got problems (said it’s alright)
Just remember (yeah, it’s alright)
Take a good look around we’re just stuck on the ground for a little while
Don’t it make you smileChorus:
Cause it’s only the world i’m living in (Yeah)
It’s only today i’ve been given(Yeah)
There ain’t no way i’m giving in
Cause it’s only the world (only the world)
I know the best is still yet to come
Cause even when my days in the world are done
There’s gonna be so much more than only the world for me
do do do do do do do do do, yeah its only the worlddo do do do do do do do do, yeah its only the world
Bridge:
Heaven is a place where the tears on every face will be wiped away
And I can’t wait to go, but for now it’s enoughto know
This is only temporary this is only, Yeah, Alright!Chorus:
Cause it’s only the world i’m living in
It’s only the day i’ve been given
There ain’t no way i’m giving in
Cause it’s only the world (only the world)
I know the best is still yet to come
Cause even when my days in the world are done
There’s gonna be so much more than only the world for meCause it’s only the world i’m living in
It’s only tod i’ve been given
There ain’t no way i’m giving in
Cause it’s only the world (only the world)
I know the best is still yet to come
Cause even when my days in the world are done
There’s gonna be so much more than only the world for me
(So much more than only the world, yeah)do do do do do do do do do, yeah its only the world

Yours is A+
October 26, 2007

If your life is to be evaluated, who will be giving the grade? And how is your grade?
It was 3 years ago, I was studying for my final year at NTU Singapore. I took a course on game development, it was very time consuming where we have to submit 5 assignments, including a complete game for the final assignment. It was a struggle for each assignment, and I submitted each with some ‘imperfection’, some mistakes and incompleteness here and there. No more time, so I just submitted my assignment.
The last 4 assignments’ grade are given only at the end of the semester. On the day where the grade is just released, I bumped into my lecturer before the class. I asked him, what is my grade, and he said, “it’s very good”. Eventually, I checked the net and surprised with the line of A+ that I got for all 5 assignments.
“Hey sir, so generous of you, but don’t you know I made so many mistakes, my submission is very simple, with many errors or bugs here and there, don’t you see that, it’s very obvious?” How would he answer if I asked that to my lecturer? Maybe he will answer “Mmmm, who is the one judging here? it’s not you, it’s me, and I’m giving you A+!”
Similarly, in our life, the one valuing our life is our God, not ourselves nor others. We may see mistake and imperfection in our life, but God’s view will be very different. He values our life despite of our weaknesses. God sees the progress, your love for Him and your willingness to repent and change, not all your mistakes.
And you’re an A+ in front of Him.

Let’s talk about God
October 21, 2007
Having difficulty to talk about God in your daily life? Most of us think that talking about God and even more about Christianity is unnatural, it seems unusual and even strange.
First question you need to ask yourself, does God take only a part of your life? or whole of your life? Adrian Ng, a brother in my church gave a very good message and illustration on God-soaked life. A life where God is on the throne, directing all the aspects of our life.
First step, will you have excitement to talk about God, finding out the relevance of anything under the sun to the God’s big story of human kind redemption? God-soaked life means that your life is inseparable from God, He commands all the aspects of our life, hence it’s very natural for us to talk about Him.
Second step, creatively talk about God, have empathy and listen to the needs of others, not only as a mere “soul to be saved”, but really out of our love for others.
This post is inspired by the message brought by Adrian Ng, “How to talk about God to your friends”

Journey of Faith
October 14, 2007
Journey of faith, the title of the church sermon today, brought by Ps. Lim Kim Hock.
In the message, we are learning from the life of Abraham, when he asked his servant to find a wife for his son, Isaac. (Gen 24:1-23; 47-67)
The first point I learned, Abraham put his faith on his conviction, based on God’s promises concerning Isaac and the possesion of the land. He stresses the point that the woman for Isaac must not come from Canaan, but from his relatives. Similarly, our conviction must be based on God’s will and God’s promises in our life.
The second point I learned is that God will provide beyond our expectations. He answered the servant’s prayer for a sign even before he finished praying (Gen 24:15).
Living a life of faith is never easy. We meet with all kinds of difficulties or challenges that just seem to come one after another. But at the end of it all, we are blessed by the experience. We learn more about God and grow richer through the experience.

Trust God to do His way
October 4, 2007
When you have a closed door, trust God that He is preparing a better way for you.Joel Osteen
That is more or less the highlight of the sermon I heard from Joel Osteen. When we are faced with a closed door, it could be because of our own mistake, or the events that happen to us, we somehow see that God is no longer working, God’s plan in our life has been degraded. That is the time we have to trust God on His way, instead of our own way or our own understanding.
Your thoughts are far beyond my understanding, much more than I could ever imagine.
(Psalm 139:17 CEV)

I Just Want You
October 2, 2007
My favorite song right now:
Vicki Yohe - I Just Want You
I could have fortune and fame
Go anywhere do anything
But oh God I just want You
I could search for earthly things
To satisfy my every need
But oh God I just want You
I just want You
I just want You
I just want to live
In your presence everyday
I lay down my will
And every selfish desire
Whatever it takes
Father that’s what I’ll do
Cause I just want YouStanding in this holy place
I’m only here to seek Your face
Oh God I just want You
Can You feel the passion in my heart?
To be close to where You are
Oh God I just want You
Do we always put God first in everything we do?
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Mat 6:33)
