The autobiography of growing

February 15, 2008

How do you grow?

Here is the five chapters of your autobiography if you’re growing…

Chapter 1: I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost… I am helpless. It isn’t my fault. It takes me forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in the same place, but it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it still there. I still fall in… it’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.

Chapter 4: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

Chapter 5: I walk down another street.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters by Portia Nelson

An interesting biography, the important step is in Chapter 3, the two statements…

“i see it still there“. You need to know your weaknesses to grow, T. Harv Eker mentioned that in his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

The first element of change is awareness. You can’t change something unless you know it exists.

T. Harv Eker

“it’s my fault”. Only when you take responsibility of your mistake and not putting the blame on others, you will grow.

Those two statements are important for your growth.

For your success,
Robert

I agree, to really grow, you have to look your weakness in its eyes. Nice post :)

Hi Kay, thanks for your comment. We do need to look at our weaknesses and be responsible for them! And then we will grow!
Cheers,
Robert
