Lesson from President Suharto
On the news: The former president of Indonesia, Suharto has just passed away today. He ruled over Indonesia for 32 years. In the most of the part of his office period, he has developed Indonesia a lot, but sadly he didn’t end it very well. He tempted to misuse his power and influence to be consumed by greed, corrupted millions of money and favoured his family and friends for many economic projects. He ruled Indonesia from 1967-1998, period of 32 years but ended where he was forced by public mass to go down from his throne, after so much riots impacted by Asian economic crisis on 1997-1998.
He started well, but he did not finish well, he chose riches and money for his family over his character, integrity and trustworthiness. A reflection… will you do the same when you have that power and influence?
Many people doesn’t want to be successful and rich partly because of this thinking, they think that money will make you dishonest, money will turns you into non-spiritual, turning away from God into greed and consumerism.
Here is what I learned from T. Harv Eker, in his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind…
Money will only make you more of what you already are.
T. Harv Eker
He continued on…
If you’re mean, money will afford you the opportunity to be meaner… If you’re jerk at heart, with money you can be jerkier…
T. Harv Eker
but…
If you’re kind, money will afford you the opportunity to be kinder… if you’re generous, more money will simply allow you to be more generous.
T. Harv Eker
Isn’t it so true?
If you have not reached your goal right now, focus on how you need to develop yourself! Being more generous, being more with integrity, being more responsible and trustworthy.
Check yourself when you’re an employee, are you stealing your offices’ stationary? Are you stealing your working time? Are you able to take responsibility of what you have right now with full integrity?
Develop yourself now, start practicing discipline now! So that when success opportunity comes, when you are successful later on, you won’t be a jerk! And you will end your life well, finishing well!
The best way to make money is to stop selfishly looking to make money. Instead, be trusted—by being trustworthy.

good post robert, I think integrity is the make and break of leadership, the core of one’s character. I always believe that it is ultimately who you are as a person will determine the shape of your life.
i like your way to draw some reflection through this new event.
my philosophy:
If you want to be successful at blogging
develop your content
If you want to be successful in business
develop your product/service
If you want to be successful in life
develop yourcharacter
Cheers
