The world where people are sharing

20071231_hourglass.jpgSome reflection and my personal story on this year, a review of 2007 for me!

This year, the theme of my life is CHANGES! it’s the year where I go through so many changes in my life, I switched jobs two times in this year, learned many things about sales and being smart in the middle of office politics from a very good supervisor. Some other changes, I moved to a new church this year, I’ve tried to do network marketing this year, starting habit of exercise regularly and now doing some serious blogging.

I have actually started blogging one year ago, in 2006, out of depression in my Friendster blog, I just posted a post there and then stopped, uncomfortable with sharing my feeling over to the blogosphere. And then this year I’m tickled to start blogging again after some friends started a blog over at Teoblogi (in Indonesian language) and Falnix13 (in both Indonesian and English). These blogs and their authors inspired me not to blog about my own purpose-less story, but much more on what I really learned from the books, from great leaders, from great friends, from church and the Bible, that how the Reason-2-Smile is born on September 2007. Reason-2-Smile name is taken from the following quote…

When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.

Unknown

After being into the blogosphere, I tried to make a habit of posting a blog everyday on the month of October 2007, successful even though it was tough, even more when part of them is my 10 days holiday back in Indonesia where the internet is really slow, and I can’t really enjoy surfing the net over there. On November, I’m taking another step of faith again, buying a domain which is this domain, reason4smile.com, and joining the Yaro Starak’s Blog Mastermind program to be serious in this blogosphere.

Why Blogging?

After getting into the blogosphere, I realized that it’s something that I’m trying to pursue in my previous and current leadership responsibilities I have ever taken, it’s just that at that point of time I don’t know much or I don’t have enough confidence to get into this world of blogging, the world where people non-hesitantly sharing their knowledge.

Much of my experience in writing, media and leadership comes from my church ministry, the theme seems to be reiterated over and over again. Started with helping out writing one or two articles in my church back then in Indonesia when I was high school, I found the enjoyment of writing.

The year 2003 at my university in Singapore, it’s the very first leadership experience I’ve ever taken, for a year I have to lead a publication and media ministry as part of the Indonesian student Christian fellowship , in charge of their newsletter and website. This is the point of my life where I started realizing the dream of people sharing their thoughts and opinions. I don’t want the students just receiving the sermon messages without any further thoughts, I want some sort of discussion, and that’s how I’m going around with a photographer (another committee member with standard camera) to question them or ask their thoughts and put it into the newsletter.

On the year 2005, again, by the grace of God, I’m initiating an Indonesian newsletter for my church back then. Again coming from the dream where people sharing their knowledge, where I even put ‘spy’ in all the Indonesian small group that we have, to ‘detect’ any interesting knowledge or interest that their friends have, to ask them to share, to be published in the newsletter.

And the coming year 2008, I’ll be coordinating a small library, it’s a small team, and it’s my first leadership responsibility not for Indonesian community. But more than that I’d like to increase the awareness of the importance of reading to the people, and possibly growing it into something like a book reading club where people sharing what they have read to one another. Hope that through this experience, I’ll be able to share more thoughts on personal development and leadership in this blog.

One fact I see is that it’s sometimes so difficult to ask the people sharing their opinion, no time or too busy are the excuses that often heard. Yet, when I see here in blogosphere, people are sharing their knowledge just like that, spending so much time to share valuable experience and information to the readers, and no wonder they deserved the income from their blog.

It’s the world where I passionate about for so long, where people with different expertise sharing to one another their experience and knowledge.
