This year, the theme of my life is CHANGES! it’s the year where I go through so many changes in my life, I switched jobs two times in this year, learned many things about sales and being smart in the middle of office politics from a very good supervisor. Some other changes, I moved to a new church this year, I’ve tried to do network marketing this year, starting habit of exercise regularly and now doing some serious blogging.

Welcoming aging with smile

December 28, 2007

20071227_aging2.jpg

Do you have dream?

Is your dream big enough?

What have you done this year for achieving your dream? Anything to be thankful for? Any regrets for the time you have wasted?

One more year is going to be over, and another year is coming. It’s going to be a time of reflection, time of excitement and celebration, and time of setting some more goal in the new year. But will you also be celebrating the fact that in the new year you’re getting older and you’re aging?

Pursuing a dream is not easy, many ups and downs, yet we need to have persistence. In any time of the year what we need to be reminded of our dream and keep growing, keep ticking. It’s what Albert Einstein said…

It’s not that I am so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.

Albert Einstein

On growing, Dr. Henry Cloud shares three ingredients of growth in his book,Changes That Heal: How to Understand the Past to Ensure a Healthier Future. These are the three…

Grace, it’s serenity, it’s God’s grace in spite of our weaknesses, it’s about forgiving ourselves, enjoying your blunder, and even laugh over our mistake…
Truth, it’s courage, knowing the truth reveals what we need to change, getting into the corridor and taking step to change, to pursue our dream…

And the third ingredient of growth is…

Mindset to win sales trick!

December 25, 2007

20071225_salewindow_ok.jpg

It’s Christmas day and year-end is coming, certainly you will see many discounts, promotions and sales everywhere. Most come with ads with the following message, “Limited Time Offer”, “One Time Offer”, “Last Day!”, “Sale Ends Today!” and “Offer valid until midnight”!

Do you know what are these?

In an article from richgrad.com, SJ Yee shared about the how to influence anyone to do anything, it’s a great article on the 6 ways to influence people. The last step he mentioned is the principle of scarcity, and those ads that I have written down above are the examples. What is he trying to say with principle of scarcity?

The principle of scarcity targets people’s innate fear of loss.

SJ Yee

Again this is much related with my previous post, it’s another benefit of applying the secret of giving, the belief that life seems abundant!

First mindset: Sales/discount season seems abundant

The secret of giving

December 22, 2007

20071222_gift_box.jpg

It’s three days away from Christmas and everyone seem to be celebrating Christmas. Many stores open a year-end sale and gift bazaar to make this season a season of shopping, and hopefully a season of giving.

I’ve been looking forward to post a message on Christmas. Today I will talk about it, especially on the attitude in giving. It’s inspired from the following quote on giving…

Sometimes we hold on to our possesions because we fear we might run out - life seems scarce. But when we believe that giving is the way to live, we will produce more in the future - life seems abundant.

John C. Maxwell

This message is inspired not from an activity related to giving. It’s inspired more from my activity related to my house-keeping. Working oversea and away from family forced me to do my own house-keeping chores.

Over the years I found that I am a collector, I don’t like to throw things and I wanna keep it forever. I collect many things and unfortunately, most are useless. In my mind, I’m afraid that I might need it in the future, I better keep as many as possible, I don’t know what will I need in the future and I afraid that I will not be able to find what I need in the future, regretting things that I have thrown away.

This goes on and on, until I decided to make some action after reading an article from Tina Su at ThinkSimpleNow.com titled How to Cure PackRat-itis. Doing it, I’m reminded of the abundant attitude that I have ever read from The Maxwell Leadership Bible as quoted above. It’s the secret of giving, the belief that giving is a way to live, the belief that life seems abundant!

So what will you do when you have abundant attitude? When you live a life seems abundant?

Leader under construction (Tips not to beat yourself)

December 18, 2007

20071217_under_construction2.jpg

Men at work, building under construction, infrastructure cannot be used, that’s what the signboard is trying to tell us.

Today, I’d like to talk about disappointments with ourselves.

Does this statement sounds familiar? “I should not do that”, “I have got that experience before, why didn’t I learn”, “why am I so stupid?”, “every thing’s messed up now”, “I should have said no”. It’s what normally happens when we have disappointments.

You made a mistake, you supposed to learn from it, you made promise to yourself not to do it again, but again you do it again!!! How can’t you say that you’re stupid?

You perform your best, putting all your heart, energy, and even money to something, yet things result in ridicule and mockery!!! How can’t you say that you’re lousy?

Facing disappointments, it’s vulnerable for us to let go our dream, first we are no longer confident that we can achieve the goal and second, we’re afraid of further disappointments. Do not ever let go of dream because of disappointments. Possible with other reasons and enough assessment, but never with disappointments.

Facing disappointments, instead of declaring a war against yourself, rebuking and insult yourself for the mistakes you made, let’s try to visualize the dream under-construction signboard when you’re faced with disappointments. For me, it’s “Leader under construction”, for you, try “[your dream] under construction”.

That means…

The naive’s guide to happiness (How to be naive and happy)

December 14, 2007

20071215_enchanted.gif

What is naive ? The dictionary WordWeb mentioned that as

“marked by or showing unaffected simplicity and lack of guile or worldly experience

The Oxford mentioned it even in a different way:

“(disapproving) lacking experience of life, knowledge or good judgement and willing to believe that people always tell you the truth

It sounds so bad, isn’t it? But what if we can learn something from a naive person?

In this article, I’d like to bring you a naive profile, and it’s from the “Enchanted” movie, it’s really fun watching the movie. It has quite a simple plot, but I had a good time watching it and laughed a lot.

I’m sure that all of us will laugh or at least smile while watching the movie, and one of the answers must be because of that naive princess. Couldn’t blame her, as it’s her first trip to real world from the fairytale land. She came in this world without knowing nothing of this world, what she has ever known is the fairy land, happiness land, where everything will end up with happily ever after.

Naive doesn’t know the word “naive”. Me too, I know the word “naive” when a friend commented on me when I tried to influence her to join me doing network marketing business, she is using the word “naive” to show that I’m so mmm… naive, inexperienced, believe that everyone is telling the truth, believe that everything is so simple and easy to do.

This is also the reason I put the “naive” as part of the sub-title in my blog. It’s a limitation and it’s important to change and to know how I can turn this naive-ness of mine, this limitation into an advantage.

Taking the positive side, let’s see what we can learn from this naive princess from the “Enchanted” movie…

1. You won’t know unless you try

How to avoid busyness #4: The Worrywart

December 12, 2007

20071212_worry.jpg

We have talked about perfectionist, procrastinator, and contender in the past, and now I’m going to talk about the other busyness that we like to do, that is worrying! Worry is a waste of not only your time but also your energy.

How does the worrywart getting so busy in life?

  1. They worried of not having enough. Worrying of scarcity, they get so busy to work for more and more money. Worrying that they don’t have enough skills or capabilities, they get so busy on taking this and that lessons. Worrywart is always afraid of having not enough, and therefore they keep on adding things. They can get into being a contender easily, as they’re afraid of not being able to catch up with the others.
  2. They worried that they have made mistakes. You have a dream, you decided to pursue a dream, you have made the first step, and one thing for sure, you will face obstacles! What often happens when we face obstacles? we will start worrying! We worry that we have made mistakes, we’re afraid to continue and make the next step, we want to abandon our dream, and get back to the beginning again. They can get into being a procrastinator easily, as they keep on dreading their decision, as they think it will be another mistake.

You can see how easy it is from worry to be busy, worry itself is a waste of time, and worry makes us feeling like we have not enough time.

So what can you do to avoid the worrywart busyness?

How to avoid busyness #3: The Competitor

December 10, 2007

20071210_dog_race2.jpg

Honestly, what are you trying to win in life? Do you think life is a racing, a competition or a contest? Do you always compare yourself with others? Do you always say I’m not outspoken enough, I’m not smart enough, or I’m not beautiful enough.

Being busy sometimes deals a lot when we are comparing with other people, striving to be the best, being somebody that we do not even like to do, just for the sake our own ego of pride and admiration from others. We live in the world where each individual strive for being the best, capable of doing anything, popular in many ways, rich and admired by many fans, yet also have lots of friends that be with us. No wonder we felt challenged to keep on busy to fight for the best.

The question: shall we strive to be the best?

I’m reading a book from Jack Welch right now, titled “Winning”. Inside the book, he shows us the importance of focus in mission and values in a business life, he continues on giving a living example of a company called Enron…

Enron’s new mission meant it focused first on trading energy and then on trading anything and everything. That change was probably pretty exciting at the time, but obviously no one stopped to figure out and explicitly broadcast what values and corresponding behaviors would support such a heady goal… And it was in that context –of no context– that Enron’s collapse occured.

Enron pursuing to be sell anything and everything without the capabilities to do that! That made them collapse. It’s not only true in a business life, but also in our individual life…
